A city with layers
The area of today’s Larnaca has been inhabited for about 4,000 years, according to the Municipality of Larnaka. Ancient Kition lay beneath and around the modern city.
The archaeological site of Kition preserves evidence of a city-kingdom; Visit Cyprus notes Mycenaean Achaean presence there from the 13th to the end of the 11th century BC. Modern Larnaca remains a working coastal city where these layers meet daily life.
